Unbiased Bowling Presidents Report 2013
The past year has seen some mixed fortunes for Unbiased with the membership dropping slightly, but some of our bowlers have done Unbiased proud with excellent wins in the club titles as well as great success in the 2013 rookies competition .
Phil Means and Phil Wright proved a formidable team to take out the Zone 11 Rookies pairs title. They now go on to Raymond Terrace to represent the zone against the other zone winners. We wish them all the best and hope that they bring back the title.
Clyde Collier played in the singles and participated in the pairs with a bowler from Ashfield but unfortunately he wasn’t able to reach the finals. Rumour has it that he is planning to win both next year. In the singles Phil M was unfortunately eliminated in the first round by the eventual winner of the singles and Phil W won his way through to the semi finals.
In the Marrickville Club competitions we were again well represented with both teams in the Fours final consisting of players from Unbiased and one honorary Unbiased member.
In other club competitions Phil means was successful in winning the Major singles title against Ben Whipp , and combined with Phil Wright to take out the pairs title.
Our Vice President Liz Baker has continued her great bowling success by being selected to play in the City team against the Country in Port Macquarie in August this year. The greens were very fast and the ends had to be limited to 18 so that the games wouldn’t go too late. It was the best out of three matches but the country teams held sway in the last match to take out the trophy.
On a different note I have found a shirt manufacturer in Melbourne who will be making our club shirts the same as the originals that we had made in China, but with a much better fit. We have sample shirts that we purchased so that members can try them on to find their best fit. They will be a little dearer than the originals but the club has agreed to subsidise the cost to a total of $20 per shirt which will make them about $25 dollars to members .
Next year the Asia Pacific Outgames are being held in Darwin from the 10th May to 16th May 2014. It would be nice to get a strong contingent to go so that we can defend the teams titles we won last time in Wellington NZ. It is promising to be a great time and the organizers are putting a big effort into it to ensure a big success. So start puting a bit of money aside each week to make sure that you don’t miss a fantastic event. We have received some good prices for accommodation and this will be sent out to all the members in the very near future with other pieces of information as they come to hand. Darwin is a very nice clean city and the bowls club that we will be playing at are very keen to host the bowling.
Thanks to everyone in the club who helped make this last year a success by their participation in the bowling or helping to organize the Sunday matches etc when it was needed.
Hopefully the next year may see an increase in our membership and the return of members who haven’t been bowling for an extended time.
Thanks again most sincerely,
Ian Clarke. President.
